Glenhaven Outdoor Burning

The following rules pertain to burning with a permit in the Glenhaven/Cain Lake urbanized areas. For more questions, call Chief Henderson at 360-595-0130 or 360-815-7691.
  1. No woody debris larger than 2 feet in diameter may be added to the burn at any time.
  2. No burning during periods of local fog. Mountains in surrounding area must be visible before ignition of any fire.
  3. All neighborhood residents within 1,000 feet of burn site must be notified of fire prior to ignition.
  4. Cage fan is required on site and will be utilized until all material is consumed and fire is 100% extinguished.
  5. The fire must be started from a pile no larger than 4' x 4'. Once the smaller pile is fully engaged additional material may be added with effort to keeping the pile fully engaged with the maximum pile size being 15' x 15". Only one pile may be burned at a time.
  6. Ignite no fire prior to 8am.
  7. The fire must be machined stacked by an excavator taking care to shake off soil to cut down on smothering fire. Material may only be introduced to the fire during business hours (8:00am-5:00pm) Monday-Friday.
  8. No permitted fires may be burned on weekends or holidays. All permitted fire must be extinguished by 6:00pm on Friday.
  9. A charged hose line that can reach beyond the pile and a watch person shall be in attendance of fire at all times until fire is extinguished. Ashes must be cold to touch.
  10. A 20 foot minimum firebreak is required for all piles at all times. Excavator shall be able to work around pile at all times.
  11. No burning if sustained winds are greater than 5 mph in any direction. If winds exceed 10 mph after the fire is started, the pile must be aggressively torn apart and extinguished to the point of no visible smoke. Keep in mind smoke and ash complaints are the main complaints on burn piles.
  12. If all of these requirements can not be achieved the fire will not be allowed and hauling arrangements should be considered.
